Nepal

Located in the Himalayas, Nepal has a diverse geography, including fertile plains, subalpine forested hills and eight of the world's ten tallest mountains, including Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth.

General Details

Officially known as the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, the country is located mainly in the Himalayas and borders China in the north and India in the south, east and west. Bangladesh is located at its southeastern tip and Bhutan is separated from it by the Indian state of Sikkim.

Population

Nepal has an estimate of 26.5 million people and is home to people of many different national origins. Nepal is multicultural and multiethnic country with descendants of three major migrations from India, Tibet and North Burman and the Chinese province of Yunnan.

Nepal is divided into 7 provinces and 7 districts. More than 20% of the population live in urban areas. The capital is Kathmandu is the largest city and has five UNESCO World Heritage sites. â€‹

Languge

The major and official language of Nepal is Nepali which is derived from Sanskrit. Many Nepali in government and business speak Maithili as the main language and Nepali as their common language for communication. 

Religion

Most of the Nepalese population follows Hinduism and most of the festivals in Nepal are Hindu. Other minority religions in Nepal are Muslims, Christianity and Jainism amongst other faiths.
